Miracles Wrought Through the Cross

Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus...

Miracles Wrought Through the Cross

O foolish Galatians!  Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?  Gal 3:1

Paul was irate when he wrote this.  Why? He had taught them that the cross was at the center and was the source of all transformation and miracles for the Christian.  He called the Galatians "stupid" for leaving the cross and going back to a human effort system to keep law as the power source for change in their lives.  Gal 3:1-3.

He had also explained to them that the cross had been the source of all miracles worked among the Galatians:

"Does He who supplies the Spirit to you AND WORKS MIRACLES AMONG YOU do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? Gal 3:4-5.

Here is what Paul is so upset about:  that believers, through faith that God raises the dead, should be willing, through the Spirit, to yield up their old sinful self-lives to death daily.  When they do so, God responds by working resurrection miracles both IN AND AROUND them.  The cross is the only Way to power.  When Christians try to do things for God outside of this Way the only result is failure and defeat.  The Way of the Cross is God's only plan for today.  Paul had clearly shown the Galatians the cross and explained that God's wonderful works only flow when the believer by faith is willing to participate in dying and rising with Christ.  Nevertheless, the Galatians were "idiots" for leaving the Spirit and this beautiful cross/resurrection program to go back to law based human effort.  They did this even though the cross had been "publicly portrayed" to them.

Bottom line:  Miracles happen for believers today when they go to the cross.  The cross not only changes us inwardly but through its application God works wonders around us.  It is God's only Way.

Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life.". Jn 11:25.  He also said He is the door of death which leads into His resurrection life and power.  Jn 10:7.
