Romans 7

The Believer Is Dead To The Law

Paul starts in verse one, by explaining a fact that the law has power over each
person as long as their alive. He tells this to those who know and are familiar with the law. However, since all are under the laws of conscience and those that govern creation none is excluded. Paul gives us an unarguable example of a man and a woman who are married. He shows that the woman is bound to her husband by law until death. He then says that if she were to marry another man while her husband is alive, she would be an adulterer. Anyhow, if her husband died she would be free legally to remarry. This is the same fact in all born again believers. We are dead to the law, who was our first husband, and are married to Christ through our new birth. Paul explains that when we were in the flesh, trying to walk by self-efforts, we were in a current of sin, which produced fruit unto  death. He also explains that we were delivered from the works of the law and are
now able to walk in newness of the Spirit.
