The Law of Moses

What is the law and what purpose does it serve? We know from the scriptures that the law was handed down after the promise because of transgressions. Transgressions were committed before the law was passed and even to the present time. However, as Paul states we would not know what the actual acts of sin were if the law had not shown us. The law reveals God’s standard of  character, showing what sin is and what is not pleasing to Him. We can see in the Word that the strength of the Sin is the law and that means the entire law, as well as, any laws we establish for our own holiness. From the time that the law was handed down, the fallen state of humankind was apparent and the bondage therein increased.
